Hot Indie-Rock Babe: Katrina Kerns

It’s bizarre,” says Ford model Katrina Kerns of her newfound status as indie-rock-überbabe. “How many indie rockers are going to see my Kleenex ad and go, ‘Ooh, look at that girl’?” Kerns, 23, joined singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens as a backup singer in the spring of 2003, but it wasn’t until this year, when Stevens broke out and Kerns started playing the glockenspiel, that guys sat up, took notice and formed the Katrina Kerns Appreciation Society. But Kerns is more than just eye candy. After being discovered by Model Search America at fourteen, the Nebraska native has been driven to succeed. “I keep myself busy with things I’m passionate about,” she says, such as guitar, piano and her line of designer handbags. In the meantime, even that glock looks sexy with Kerns behind it.
