New Uniforms
When asked what the band will be wearing on-stage for their Australian tour debut, Sufjan recently told Melbourne’s Beat:
“I don’t think we’re going to wear the cheerleading outfits. I’ve outgrown mine. I don’t know what we’ll wear this time. My drummer’s wife [Caroline McAlister] is the designer and she helps me with a lot of my stage clothes. I gave her a lot of freedom this time, so there might be wings involved, there might be reflectors.”
There are indeed reflectors. On-the-sunny-side and Pitchfork have up-close photos of the new multi-colored t-shirts, dresses, and reflective vests that Sufjan and band debuted in Australia.
Essay questions: Is it just me or is Sufjan channeling ’70s-era Elton John in some of those photos? Shara and Annie’s uniforms reminds me of a cartoon character but I can’t think of which one. Rainbow Brite, maybe? Who can identify that sun patch and what it stands for?

Hey thanks for using my pic. love the site!
He was incredible at the Forum. The other instrumentalists on the left side of the stage wore the same tops as each other which were predominantly grey with a few reflective patches on them as well.
To me, this whole combination on stage seemed like a modernized Star Trek.

I don’t know about the sun patch, but I’d say he’s channeling Plasticman with those glasses: see here.
