Scrooge McDuck ..Or, Alec Duffy And Co. Say “Bah, Humbug!”

Alec Duffy was recently announced as the winner of The Great Sufjan Song Xmas Xchange contest. His winning entry is streaming on Asthmatic Kitty’s site. Soon after the announcement, word started to circulate that Duffy is the artistic director of Hoi Polloi, “a New York-based company.. that combines music, theater and dance to create quirky performance pieces.”

Sufjan fans hoping to hear the song that the Xmas Xchange winner received will be sadly disappointed. Hoi Polloi posted on their site about their intentions for the song:

As winner of the contest, Alec (and thus Alec’s theater company) will soon be in sole physical and legal possession of an original Sufjan Stevens track (we haven’t actually heard it yet, as Sufjan is holidazing in Hong Kong… mid-January was given as an estimated delivery date).

We’d like to do something unique with this track. And so, in an effort to rekindle the flames of rarity, it is not our intention to release the track over the internet.

Thus, we are holding off, and preparing a holiday show for 2008 in which the song will figure prominently.

we’d like to add to the mythical world of musical legend with our curation of this song: the song that will never be uploaded.
