Microfilm Cover Chicago

Every week I get various email notifications about the latest Sufjan vs. (whomever) mash-up, YouTube video creation featuring one of his songs, or mp3 download of some guy that just learned how to play guitar covering his favorite Sufjan song (more often than not it’s either “John Wayne Gacy, Jr” or “Casimir Pulaski Day“). To be honest, I don’t always listen to or watch them since mash-ups and half-rate covers (for any artist/band) just aren’t my thing. Frequent visitors to this site will notice that I don’t often mention covers here, only now and then when I find one to be unique in some way.

With that in mind, I skeptically clicked over to myspace and pressed play on Microfilm’s recently posted cover of “Chicago.” Since I have a big soft spot for ’80s/’90s synthpop I really loved it. They are hoping to release this on iTunes/vinyl at some point in the future with b-sides and remixes. In the meantime, give it a listen at myspace.
