Illinois Nominated For Original Voices Award
Borders today announced nominees for its 2005 Original Voices Awards. The annual awards competition honors books in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, independent reader/young adult, and children’s. In addition, for the first time, Borders will also honor music. From the field of nominations listed below, one winner in each category will ultimately be selected to receive a $5,000 prize from Borders, as well as wide consumer exposure for their work. Additionally, the winners — who will be announced Jan. 19, 2006 — will be honored at a special breakfast reception during the 2006 BookExpo America convention in Washington, D.C. in May.
Nominees for the 2005 Original Voices Awards - Music:
- “Amos Lee” by Amos Lee
- “Careless Love” by Madeleine Peyroux
- “Illinois” by Sufjan Stevens
- “Martha Wainwright” by Martha Wainwright
- “Picaresque” by The Decemberists
- “Un Viaje” by Cafe Tacuba
Nominees were selected by Borders store employees and employees from the company’s headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich., who voted for their favorite works in each category. Now, a committee of corporate staff members representing each of the categories will read, or listen to, the nominated works and vote to determine the final winners.
