Birds Of My Neighborhood (front)Sufjan Stevens has chosen the innocence mission’s song “The Lakes Of Canada” as his pick for “The Perfect Song” on the November 23, 2004 episode of NPR’s All Songs Considered. “The Lakes Of Canada” is from the innocence mission’s 1999 release Birds Of My Neighborhood.

Sufjan Stevens: “what I always come back to.. is the small song that makes careful observations about everyday life. This is what makes the music by The Innocence Mission so moving and profound…”

Read Sufjan’s entire quote about “The Lakes Of Canada” and listen to the song at All Songs Considered.

Birds Of My Neighborhood is currently out of print so if you would like to purchase a CD copy you will have to wait until it is re-released. According to Badman Recording Co: “The re-release of this album has been delayed and currently a release date is not known.” You may, however, purchase an interim limited disc without artwork directly from the innocence mission. Birds Of My Neighborhood is available at iTunes if you are only interested in purchasing the songs in digital format.
